Puedo decir, que después de seguir los pasos que se describen en el enlace que pongo más abajo , conectarme a Microsoft y actulizar hasta 17 parches que mi Windows 2000 tenía pendiente, los errores de corrupción de los archivos han desaparecido. No es necesario modificar ninguna opción sobre archivos en 3ds. Saludos y suerte.

Microsoft Hotfix 824146 available for 3ds max and Autodesk VIZ which corrects the (.max) file corruption caused by recent Microsoft Windows Updates (updated: September 2003)
A previous Microsoft Hotfix (823980) which had been made available through Windows Update caused the corruption of 3ds max and Autodesk VIZ (.max) files.
Whether you have updated to the previous security Hotfix 823980 or held back, you can now update to this new Microsoft Hotfix 824146. This will pick up both the security patch and protect the integrity of your product files.
