Problem:
A previous Microsoft Hotfix (823980) which had been made available through Windows Update caused the corruption of 3ds max and Autodesk VIZ .max files.

Symptoms included Network Rendering failures, and crashing while trying to open files saved by patched computers on systems that did NOT have the 823980 patch.

Solution:
Microsoft Hotfix 824146 is now available for 3ds max and Autodesk VIZ and corrects the (.max) file corruption caused by the recent Microsoft Windows Update. Whether you have updated to the previous security Hotfix 823980 or held back, you can now update to this new Microsoft Hotfix 824146. This will pick up both the security patch and protect the integrity of your product files.
