Bueno, esto se ha convertido en un diálogo de sordos. Así pues, he decidido sumarme a el esperando no ser escuchado. Llevo utilizando Linux desde el año 1994. En aquel entonces debíamos hacerlo todo a mano bajando muchas veces los paquetes fuente y compilando todo. En esos primeros momentos tardé semanas en configurar completamente la distribución (una slackware). Ahora es totalmente distinto, se ha evolucionado mucho. Estoy muy contento con mi elección, en casa utilizo Linux exclusivamente desde 1996 (en el trabajo uso lo que me dan, que puede ser Windows, Mac OS o Linux indistintamente (trabajo en una empresa de software pequeñita, que también hace cosas para el software libre).

Veo que algunos nuevos usuarios de Linux están enfervorizados con él, lo entiendo, a mí también me pasó al principio. Sin embargo, eso les lleva a cometer imprecisiones de bulto. En mi opinión en el mundo del software no existen programas superiores o inferiores. Y desde mi punto de vista Windows no es peor que Mac OS ni que Linux ni existe ninguna jerarquía en ellos.

Un software es bueno cuando a su usuario le sirve en el trabajo y le facilita la vida. Y no lo es tanto cuando al usuario se la complica. Por eso cada usuario es libre de elegir que herramientas va a utilizar. Los usuarios que han optado por Windows tienen sus razones, tan respetables como los expuestos por algún acalorado del software libre que ha escrito en este foro.

He leído en este hilo que Windows se cuelga, eso me pasaba con el Windows 95, con el XP no tengo esa experiencia. Dicen que Windows tiene un montón de errores (bueno esto es cierto, pero hay un pero). Hasta la fecha Windows se las ha tenido que ver con una legión de principiantes informáticos que le han retorcido las orejas. Veremos cómo reacciona Linux con la avalancha de novatos que se le está viniendo encima, porque os recuerdo que Linux también tiene un montón de errores y además no hay opción para meter el disco e instalar drivers (que eso los novatos lo saben hacer también).

Como he escrito antes, mi elección ha sido y sigue siendo Linux, pero ya no me molesto en proclamar sus virtudes. No me parece ni medio ético el intentar convertir y convencer a todo el mundo de las bondades del software libre (ni de las de cualquier otro software). A mí un programa me puede parecer bueno o correcto porque solventa mis problemas y otro software quizá no, pero nunca manifestaré que es una porque a mí no me sirva.

En resumen: cada uno que elija la herramienta que más útil le sea y dejad ya la demagógica libertad del software o lo malvados que son los monopolios informáticos. Hay que trabajar más y hablar menos. Un abrazo.

Lo que dice Mars Attacks es del todo cierto, en Linux puedes hacer las dos cosas, Windows a base de consola. Ya os digo, mi hermano reportó un bug en debían y se solucionó en 25-35 min. Un saludo.

Tu sabes que en compilar el núcleo de Linux se pueden tardar dos o tres horas, ¿verdad? Y que las modificaciones del núcleo son revisadas por los jefes de proyecto antes de meterlas en una compilación oficial para evitar código malvado, ¿verdad?
Danos más datos de ese bug por favor, que hay mucha leyenda urbana por ahí.

En fin, respecto al tema, ya era hora de que Microsoft utilizase su monopolio y riquezas para hacer algo bueno y dejar de vendernos el Windows que ya tiene bastantes años para que sigan utilizando su código fuente.

Pinucset: la gente sólo escucha lo que quiere oír. Ya te puedes desgañitar gritando que por eso no te van a escuchar más. Sé practico. Los que están en situación de escucharte te oirán, aunque susurres.

Ese empecinamiento en lo que es mejor, la verdad, lo que hacen los malos, me recuerda a los integristas islámicos que quieren que todo el mundo nos demos cuenta de que la verdad, lo que es mejor es ser musulmán o estar muerto. Es un integrismo.

Lo bueno de Linux es que podamos elegir utilizarlo o no. Lo bueno es que ya es una alternativa. Pero desde luego no es la solución a nada. Empecinarse en su defensa lo único que consigue es radicalizar las opiniones que no coinciden con la tuya. Radicalizar opiniones sólo consigue alejar más a la gente.

El personal no es tonto, sabe lo que hay, sabe lo que pasa, sabe que es mejor para ellos y toman una decisión. Desde otro punto de vista pueden parecer equivocados, pero no lo están, ni mucho menos. No pretendas salvar del error a alguien que no se ha equivocado, solo ha tomado una decisión distinta a la que has tomado tú.

En otras palabras: me pongo enfermo cada vez que oigo opiniones radicales de este estilo porque no hacen más que asustar a gente que estaría dispuesta a dejarse seducir por Linux y el software libre, y que podría dar el salto fácilmente. Pero se retienen por el miedo a convertirse en un radical de algo como una secta (sobre todo si dan opiniones sectarias).

Ahora se ha puesto de moda Linux y es muy col llevar una Ubuntu instalada en el portátil. Me mosquea mucho ver a tanto soplapollas (perdón por el palabro) vacilar sobre Linux (y te quieren dar clases y todo). La mayoría le harían un favor a Linux si no lo usaran ni lo defendieran.

Me mosquea mucho la gente que se toma estas cosas a pecho y defienden Linux, o Windows, o el Real Madrid, o la supremacía de la raza aria, con tanto fervor. Se me ponen los pelos como escarpias, vamos. Un abrazo.

Jis, espero no entrar en el grupo de los trolls (porque nunca me he tenido por alguien col). Algo que quería añadir a lo ya dicho es que tampoco se trata de Windows o Linux. Con una live CD como Knoppix o Ubuntu, si tienes curiosidad y ninguna gana de tener que configurar absolutamente nada, puedes probarlo sin ninguna atadura. Y si te gusta, puedes instalarlo manteniendo el Windows.

Bueno, pero el hilo es de Longhorn, en realidad hemos metido un offtopic del cagarse, y lo siento. A estas alturas no tengo nada claro que novedades trae, aparte de un icono de papelera de reciclaje con transparencias.

-Realmente está versión es un so sin las ataduras de sus releases predecesores? Esta programado desde 0? Va a ser multitarea y multiusuario real? Va a consumir recursos por un tubo o los va a optimizar? (y un largo etc).

Desgraciadamente, por la costumbre que vamos viendo desde hace años ya, me temo que todas esas preguntas se responden con una misma respuesta, y es que para variar, no es oro todo lo que reluce, es decir, que puede que sea más bonito puede que un largo etc y seguramente, necesitaras más máquina, más recursos y más de todo.

Claro, teniendo en cuenta que cada vez los PC son más potentes, a la hora de programar pues te importa un pijo ya que sabes que, si el PC del usuario no aguanta el so va a actualizar el h/w para soportarlo, por lo tanto. (y espero equivocarme) nos encontraremos con un aspecto de cara al usuario (Gui) muy bonito, pero de cara a funcionamiento interno, chupando recursos por un tubo (opinión personal basada en la comparación y evolucion desde Windows 3.1 hasta XP).

Microsoft designed palládium around the following ideals:
* palládium Will tell you who youre dealing with online, and what theyre doing. It Will uniquely identify you todo your PC and can limit what arrives (and runs on) that computer. Information that comes in from the internet Will be verified before you can Access it.
* palládium protects información using encryption todo seal data so that snops and thieves are thwarted. The system can maintain document integrity so that documents cant be altered without your knowledge.
